About DJ Shock
November 17th, 2007 — djshockDJ Shock was born in London, Hammersmith. Influenced by DJ Shortee Blitz and DJ MK (Kiss100), he started DJing at the age of ten on a simple computer mixing program called ‘Mix Vibes’. After mastering the basic techniques of DJing on the computer, he got his first pair of decks at the age of 12. He discovered his love and passion for DJing the moment he played the two records together. As a keen radio presenter as well, DJ Shock would record and listen to specialist radio shows over and over, learning skills and techniques.
Turntablism was always a huge interest but blended with his love for the music, he gradually developed a unique style using both turntablist techniques with the structure and basis of a radio show. At the age of just 13, he started his own business, called ‘Party Vibez’, a mobile disco company for kids parties. Here he learnt how to work with crowds and the important skills of playing live. After a year and a half of doing kids parties, DJ Shock started making mixtapes, specialising in the music and style he was developing. These ended up as a poor investment, but he was learning the valuable lessons.
DJ Shock made his debut on FierceFm, an internet radio station on which he did a weekly mix show with an average of 50 listeners. Gradually he worked his way up the internet radio ladder, appearing on stations such as Street Fm, Rampage Radio, and Manic Fm. Playing regular events in nightclubs and other venues, more valuable experience was gained with the correct audience for his style.
On the first day of 2007, DJ Shock was asked to cover an afternoon slot on London’s leading pirate station – Freeze Fm 92.7 at which he made his debut on FM radio. A week later he was given his major breakthrough onto the scene, his own prime time slot on Saturday nights.
